My comprehensive guide to understanding Interstitial Cystitis & Chronic Pelvic Pain, and moving toward complete recovery, was released in November, 2011 by Hunter House Publishing. The book has received a lot of interest, and many positive reviews. I believe this book has the power to inspire readers, to give hope, and to provide concrete answers to the most complex health situations. The Better Bladder Book discusses stress, hormones, lifestyle, exercise, the immune system, autoimmune disorders, adrenal fatigue, and vulvodynia. It goes beyond most other books to discuss occult infections, Lyme disease, and Candida overgrowth. And it is the only book to discuss at length the phenomenon of gluten intolerance and other food sensitivities in the role of IC - a factor that has now been substantiated in two small studies. Purchase the book on Amazon and other online book sellers, or with PayPal on the website: www.thebetterbladderbookinfo.com. Below I've posted the reviews from Amazon.com. A Quality of Life Saver for Sufferers of Interstitial Cystitis (IC), November 25, 2010
By W. A. Zeckhausen (Laconia, NH)
This review is from: The Better Bladder Book: A Holistic Approach to Healing Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain (Paperback)
As someone who suffered for 8 years, 24/7 with IC, I wish my urologist had this book as a resource to offer 10 years ago. Men get Interstitial Cystitis (IC), more often then realized, instead misdiagnosed with prostatitis…
I facilitate a family physician support group…they cringe [at] having patients with IC, because of the patient's pain/despair and feel guilty not knowing how to help…In this book reference is made to "Solving the IC Puzzle" by Amrit Willis having a wealth of information which is helpful for many, which it is, but this new book by Wendy Cohan is at least 10 years more up to date, clearer, and easier to read. Chances are, if you're even reading about this specialized topic, you have IC or are related by family or friends to the topic so you know how awful the disease is in destroying quality of life…This book is a godsend...a gift for relieving suffering and restoring quality of life. Besides reading it, and gifting the book to others suffering from IC & chronic pelvic pain, the likely most effective use for it would be to inform or gift family physicians, and especially urologists with the book…Thank you recovered IC nurse Wendy Cohan!

Finally - a truly comprehensive guide!, November 19, 2010
This review is from: The Better Bladder Book: A Holistic Approach to Healing Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain (Paperback)
Thank you, Wendy Cohan, for doing your research - new answers are available for women and men in pain and the doctors who treat them! So much more is known now about the debilitating condition of interstitial cystitis/pelvic pain syndrome. Thousands of women are suffering, looking for answers beyond the minimal help that's been available for years through traditional medicine. Wendy Cohan covers hormones, gluten intolerance, bacterial connections that take some work to discover, adrenal connections, pelvic floor dysfunction and more. EVERY doctor and bladder pain patient in the country needs this resource - don't miss what's been discovered in just the last 5 years…don't suffer any further when answers are becoming available.

Why is this book important? Because it has great information in an easy to understand text on how to heal your bladder without drugs—using diet and herbs, and [provides] an understanding of the gluten free diet and the foods that cause inflammation…if you have pelvic pain and bladder problems you really should have this book. It has helped my husband and I and I highly recommend it.

You Can Get Well!, January 30, 2011
By K. Cole "high schooler who loves to read" (Vancouver, WA USA)
This review is from: The Better Bladder Book: A Holistic Approach to Healing Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain (Paperback)
This is the book you want if you are hoping to get well and be free of interstitial cystitis. If you have heard, "There is no cure and we don't know the cause..." you will want to go page by page through this book until you DO uncover the cause for your chronic inflammation. The author, a registered nurse and IC survivor herself, even offers a service where you can contact her and receive personalized assistance. This book goes way beyond just suggesting dietary changes or telling you to drink baking soda and water. This is a careful, researched look at several body imbalances and conditions that can lead to IC disease. Don't wait another moment - get this book.

Must Have for IC Sufferers, January 29, 2011
By Sarah
This review is from: The Better Bladder Book: A Holistic Approach to Healing Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain (Paperback)
This book is an excellent resource for anyone living with IC. Since being diagnosed I have done lots of research online, but this book has information that I could not find on the internet. It has helped to possibly link my gluten and several other sudden food sensitivities to my IC which I did not realize before. It has taught me ways to help relax and calm my bladder. There are diet suggestions, treatment options, studies relating hormones to IC..the list goes on and on. I highly recommend that anyone with IC read this book!

Best book on I.C. by a mile (and I've read them all), January 26, 2011
By S. Falcone (Bay Area, CA)
This review is from: The Better Bladder Book: A Holistic Approach to Healing Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain (Paperback)
I have a moderate case of interstitial cystitis and have read just about every book out there on the subject. Although Robert Moldwin, M.D.'s book is good, it is more of a primer for the newly diagnosed…The Better Bladder Book is far and away the best book for those who have already been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, as well as those who suspect they may have the condition (it covers the basics, but also offers up information that even the long-term patient probably does not know).
The author covers anatomy, makes practical suggestions from the well-known to the more obscure (some were new to me and I thought I was familiar with all the alternatives), explains WHY certain foods or activities may be difficult for the I.C. patient (and how to work around the limitations), and does all this in a manner that manages to be very accessible and at the same time thorough and non-condescending.
I really feel that I know much more about I.C. now than before I read this book (such as its link to allergies and why the link may exist and also the connection to gluten intolerance. I am intolerant of gluten, so this kind of floored me!). I have shown this book to my urologist, as he has a lot of I.C. patients. I am really grateful to Ms. Cohan for writing The Better Bladder Book.

A Full Spectrum Look at Treating IC, January 17, 2011
By Carin E. Willis (Colorado Springs, CO)
This review is from: The Better Bladder Book: A Holistic Approach to Healing Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain (Paperback)
Wendy Cohan's book covers a lot of important material in a concise format with the overall theme of the patient seeking out their answers and therefore their own treatment protocol. She provides medical examples with lots of research backing up her statements. It is easy as an IC patient to become angry at IC and frustrated at what sometimes seems like an uncaring and slow to make advancements medical community, but neither Wendy nor her book take on this tone in the least. Wendy provides the full spectrum of treatment protocols starting with traditional Western and ending with more holistic based treatments, with the overall emphasis of: the patient should choose what is right for them and to continue until "all stones are uncovered" until you find the answers for your individual health concerns. It should also be noted that Wendy is one of the first in the medical field to point out the possible link between gluten intolerance and the connection to IBS and IC. If you are seeking a medically sound, yet holistically friendly based book about IC, then I would highly recommend picking up a copy of "The Better Bladder Book" published by Hunter House books.

Up-to-Date Information that Gives Hope!, December 18, 2010
By Claire
This review is from: The Better Bladder Book: A Holistic Approach to Healing Interstitial Cystitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain (Paperback)
This is a fantastic book that anyone who has IC should have. Last week I got results from food intolerance (IGg) testing I had done. It turns out I am intolerant to gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs and a few other things. The next day The Better Bladder Book arrived, I had it pre ordered from Amazon. Imagine my surprise to see a whole chapter devoted to gluten intolerance and IC!
It takes a lot of effort to address all the issues that are linked to IC, but it will be worth it!! This book motivates and gives hope.
Thank you Wendy!
Personal communication:
Hi Wendy,
I want to thank you for sending me a copy of The Better Bladder Book. I have just had the opportunity to sit down and begin to read it. It is so informative and such an incredible tool. I wish I could have found something like this early on. I also was told by the allopathic doctors that "too bad" you have interstitial cystitis and it is incurable. "You will just have to learn to live with it". Yikes, what a death sentence.
I realize now that this gluten issue came up when I was little girl fifty+ years ago. My mother, a Type I diabetic, was told back in the 1950's that she should not eat gluten. I think a dietician alerted her to this but she brushed it off not understanding the consequences. When I put all these pieces together I can see the pattern. When I totally gave up gluten all my vaginal, rectal and urinary challenges improved remarkably. I think I have been gluten intolerant from childhood and it is what precipitated the food allergies, etc. etc. etc. Between being gluten free, the physical therapy for prolapsed perineum and hysterectomy scar tissue, I have my life back.
Your dedication to educating people about IC being a "symptom" rather than a disease is brilliant. So many people could have been saved from years of sadness, pain and utter discouragement.
Thanks so much for your dedication to the gluten-free lifestyle.
Erica
